Welcome to the Annual All-Ireland Programming Olympiad
This is an annual computer programming olympiad held at Dublin City University (DCU). The goals of the competition are:
- To encourage and reward young programmers, (male and female).
- To promote contacts among programmers in Ireland.
- To select a team for the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI).
The competition is open to all second-level students in Ireland who are under 20 on the 1st of July.
It consists of two rounds; round one can be done at home or at school, and is used to determine entry to the final round which will be held in the School of Computing at DCU. For details on entry go to the How To Enter section.

AIPO Silver Medallist wins 2013 Inter Colliege Programming Competition
Peter Kelly (Big Fish Games), Barry Hurley (IrlCPC), Adam O'Sullivan, Abdullah Mohammad, Professor Barry O'Sullivan (Head of CS, UCC) and Dr. Sabin Tabirca (MPT coordinator)
AIPO 2013 Silver medallist Abdullah Mohammad along with his team partner Adam O'Sullivan recorded a remarkable victory at the annual Inter Colliege Programming Competition hosted by UCC and the ACM and sponsored by BigFish Games.
21 teams competed of which 3 were second-level student and AIPO contestants. The teams had to complete 5 problems each with 10 test cases in 4 hours with Abdullah and Adam scoring an impressive 29 points, 9 points clear of the second placed TCD team, Tea++.
Team Ireland AIPO-IOI Training Camp
The six finalists from the AIPO to attend the IOI training camp have now been confirmed. They are as follows:
- Daniel Mulcahy - AIPO 2013 Gold Medalist 2013 - Gonzaga College
- Abdullah Mohammad - AIPO 2013 Silver Medalist - Carrigaline CS, Cork
- Áron Hoffmann - AIPO 2013 Bronze Medalist - Luttrellstown CC, Dublin
- Maciej Goszczycki - AIPO 2012 Winner - Colaiste Chroah Abhann, Kilcoole, Co. Wicklow
- Conor Flynn - AIPO 2012 Winner - St. Joseph's College, Nun's Island, Galway
- Richard Tynan - AIPO 2012 Winner - Cistercian College, Roscrea
This training camp will be a step up in difficulty from the AIPO finals and will be designed to give these students the best preparation possible of medaling at the IOI if they are selected to represent Ireland.
The curriculum look at classic IOI problems over two days and algorithmic strategies for solving them. Following this on the 26th there will have an IOI grade competition to select the top 2 students to travel to the IOI in Australia in July.
This training camp is made possible by the generous funding from Fidelity Investments. Full board accommodation will be provided for two nights in DCU Campus Residency, much like the IOI itself, and training will take place in the School of Computing.
